Climate change is an already large problem in today’s world. Many countries are fighting to control climate change, having spent over 3 billion CAD and have pledged to spend over 8 billion more. But it is not the money that makes the biggest difference in the fight against climate change, it is the seemingly small things that we all do on a day to day basis that is truly helping the most.
Canada, in particular, is doing countless things to help control climate change.
Canada is committed to being a global leader in clean energy. Over two-thirds of Canada’s power already
comes from sources that don’t emit greenhouse gasses. Canada is striving to have 90% clean energy by 2030. This will help to reduce emissions that come from other forms of energy production such as coal, oil or petrol. Using energy that doesn’t have emissions often comes with other perks such as it being renewable and reliable.
Canada is investing in electric vehicle and alternative fuel to reduce emissions from cars powered by
petrol or diesel and replace it with a clean renewable system of travel. In 2015, Ontario invested 20 million dollars to build electric car charging stations. This will help with reducing emissions from petrol and diesel cars, considering that an average car emits 4.7 tonnes of co2 per year.
Canada is pricing carbon pollution. This helps to give an incentive to big companies to try to use clean energy instead of carbon emissions. Many companies have made the switch or at least are making an effort to use clean energy over carbon emissions.
